I was talking to my second cousin Ariana who is like 8 or 9 now on the phone and she asked for my blessing which is like this thing that Puerto Ricans ask of their elders and it made me feel really old/weird but I was like “Dios te bendiga” and it was weird cause I don’t even believe in god so then what is a blessing but it’s also this weird performative utterance. Also, I’m pretty sure this is a unique thing to PR (and I think DR) which is kind of cool.
